This Code of Conduct outlines how members of the Bowen Island Men’s Shed are expected to behave toward fellow Shedders, IPS School students, staff, parents, and the wider community.
As members, we are expected to support the values of the Bowen Island Men’s Shed and to follow the Shed Constitution and By-Laws.
Maintaining a high standard of conduct is essential to building trust among members and with our partner, Island Pacific School (IPS). This Code is intended to help ensure the Shed remains a safe, respectful, and welcoming place for everyone.
Standards of Conduct
Bowen Island Men’s Shed members are expected to:
1. Treat fellow members, the IPS community, and the public with respect.
2. Act with integrity while at the Shed or when representing the Bowen Island Men’s Shed in any capacity.
3. Treat people fairly and with consideration.
4. Respect the confidentiality of personal information.
5. Always promote safety and good housekeeping practices in the Shed.
6. Speak up if there is a conflict between personal interests and responsibilities as a
Shed member.
7. Avoid giving, requesting, or accepting favours or advantages that could be seen as
inappropriate, or using information gained through the Shed for personal benefit.
Corrective Action
If a member behaves in a way that is inconsistent with this Code of Conduct or may harm the reputation of the Bowen Island Men’s Shed, the matter will be addressed promptly.
Corrective actions will be determined by the President in consultation with the Board and will reflect the seriousness of the situation. All actions taken will be documented.
• Minor issues may result in a verbal or written discussion, a request for an apology,
or a conversation with the President.
• Serious issues may put a member’s Shed membership at risk.
The goal of corrective action is to resolve concerns fairly, maintain a respectful environment, andprotect the Shed community.
By participating in the Bowen Island Men’s Shed, members and guests agree to follow this Code.
